The 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing from November 8 to 14, 2002. A total of 2,134 representatives and specially invited representatives attended the opening ceremony, representing more than 66 million members of the whole party. The First Plenary Session of the 16th CPC Central Committee elected a new leadership group of the CPC Central Committee with Hu Jintao as the core.
